How Much Finance Ministry Loses Sri Mulyani

The inspector general of the finance ministry, Hekinus Manao, said the finance ministry would lose leadership with the planned resignation of Sri Mulyani Indrawati.

"We were shocked because we would lose her leadership," he said at the finance ministry building here on Wednesday.

He said as her inferior he was proud of her appointment as the next World Bank managing director but finance ministry employees would be more comfortable with her around.

"We have a mix feeling. We are proud of her and all the recognition of her capability to assume the new task. At least we feel we are comfortable to have conducted changes," he said.

He said the finance ministry employees would continue Mulyani’s ideas. "The bureaucratic reform movement and remuneration program would be continued."

According to him, Mulyani had informed echelon I officials regarding the World Bank’s request in a family way during breakfast Wednesday morning. He said he did not know about the process of her appointment but according to him it had gone for several months.

"The World Bank’s committee has been searching (candidates) for long from various countries and she has been on the list and on the final stage she remained on the top of the list," he said. He hoped Mulyani’s presence at the bank intense communications would develop with multilateral institutions for cooperation.

At communications with the World Bank. We can talk a lot about things needing cooperation from multilateral institutions like the World Bank. So it is a prestige for an Indonesian," he said. Hekinus said he did not know yet who would replace Mulyani.
